Fear of Flying? What’s your anxiety score 5 or 95/100?

If you have a fear of flying it can really stop you from visiting those places that you want to; enjoying holidays in the sunshine, or even stop you from travelling as part of your job if it requires foreign travel.

As a Clinical Hypnotherapist, I have worked with different types of people with a fear of flying, from the ‘slightly nervous’ to the full blown ‘terrified.’ By working with them and giving them the ‘tools’ that they need to manage their fear, for some, it has literally been life changing and liberating.

As with any fear, it is possible to unlearn it and with a little bit of help, you can relax and ultimately enjoy time on a plane, rather than expending all that nervous energy, worrying.

Recently, I had a client who had been on a ‘fear of flying’ course with one of the major airlines. They had learnt about the principles of flight and some coping techniques but rather than dealing with the fear, they had learnt how to cope with it, with a ‘one size fits all’ approach.

There had been some very helpful parts of the course, and they had appreciated that there were lots of people suffering from the same problem, but felt that a more personal bespoke approach, could be more helpful.

This led me to investigate these courses…

Many of the airlines provide courses which can help with a flying phobia; British Airways,Virgin airways and Easyjet have very popular courses. Their confidence inspiring ideas could really help.

A private course with British Airways will cost about three thousand pounds which includes flights on scheduled flights whereas a group session (such as the one my client attended) can cost anywhere between two hundred and fifty pounds and eight hundred pounds.

If you decide to look for a course, then make sure that you check exactly what the price includes (some are ground based only courses) and that it totally meets your needs.

‘Fear of flying’ course versus Hypnotherapy?

After a free consultation to discuss your fear, it normally takes 3-4 sessions to deal with the fear. Working on a ‘one to one’ basis, I can then identify what the problem is and help you to make those positive changes that allow you to change your unwanted behaviour.
